MINING

Setting up our camp near mining ruins is always a plus! Man, digging deep in the earth searching for a element placed there by upheaval of a planet in the making. Searching, always another inch away from the big nugget. This is as basic as it gets. Simplicity; man, nature, the pursuit of fortune, hard work with a tangible reward, knowledge, tenacity, & luck. Feeling a different time, deep in a mine shaft, when men worked hard and went a long way to town to get anything! Bats flutter above our heads, the stale, cool air is relief from the relentless sun outside. We are overwhelmed at the FAITH these men had that the tunnel would not collapse! At first it feels dangerous and creepy, but after awhile a strange calm takes its' place. We start to notice details of how they worked, following a crack or crevice as far as they could. WARNING: The Tres Hombres does not encourage exploring mines as extreme dangers do exist!

MUSIC

Following the roots of music that all three of us grew up on, rhythm & blues, re-packaged and sold to us by a generation of English musicians who heard the sounds of American Negro Music. The Blues. Truly music from the soul, it really fits with the open space of the desert. Music that was restricted in the States during the birth of rock-n-roll days of the fifties. Howlin' Wolf (Chester Burnett) was actually the REAL KING of Rock'n Roll! His interpretation of Robert Johnsons' original blues framework, backed by a rhythm section made the volatile mixture of Rhythm & Blues. He laid down everything that the English boys were playing and making fortunes with. Howln' Wolf was much too filthy to play on the radio during his lifetime. Listening to the songs now, they hold every bit of there original fire and energy. And, the subject matter seems mild-mannered compared to some of the vile music that is made today, in the name of making vile music... Give us Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, John Hammond, Mick & Keith, Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen, Billy, Neal Young and especially Bob Dylan, thank you all for the creative inspiration over the years.
